Ennen kuin suuntaan katseeni kohti Provinssia, palataan vielä hetkeksi parin viikon takaiseen Sideways festivaaliin, joka järjestettiin toista kertaa Helsingin Teurastamolla. Päädyin lopulta katsomaan kahden päivän aikana vain kolme keikkaa, sillä äärimmäisen kurja sadekeli ei houkutellut paikalle kuin ns. pakollisissa tapauksissa, joita olivat PJ Harvey, Explosions in the Sky sekä Peaches. Onneksi ehdin nähdä PJ:n, sillä keikkaa aikaistettiin sadeuhan vuoksi muutamalla tunnilla (suurimpana syynä arvokkaat vintagesoittimet, joille kosteus ei tee hyvää). Sade pysyikin keikan alkupuolen loitolla, mutta sitä alkoi jo tihuuttaa loppupuolella. Ehdin alueelle kirjaimellisesti pari minuuttia ennen keikan alkua. Soundi keikalla oli mahtava ja PJ on esiintyjänä vangitseva. Odotin kuitenkin enemmän vanhempaa tuotantoa, jota kuultiin vain viiden kappaleen verran. Onneksi 90-luvun tuotannosta kuultiin 50 ft Queenie, To Bring You My Love ja Down By the Water. Ne olivat ehdottomasti keikan parhaimmistoa! Keikan aikana räpsityt kuvat sen sijaan eivät ole parhaimmistoa, mutta pienellä muokkaamisella niistä sai jotenkin kelvollisia.

Explosions in the Skyn keikan aikana vettä tuli jo reippaammin, joten kuvia siitä ei ole. Sateen vuoksi en ottanut lauantaina kameraa lainkaan mukaan Peachesin keikalle. Keikasta ei puuttunut räväkkyyttä tai näyttävyyttä eikä sade haitannut menoa lainkaan. Järjestysmiehet kurkkivat lavalle tuon tuostakin ja voin kertoa, että ne ilmeet ja reaktiot olivat näkemisen arvoisia. Peachesilla oli mukanaan kaksi taustatanssijaa, jotka pukeutuivat muun muassa vagina-asuihin.

Before it’s time for Provinssi let’s get back to Sideways Festival for a while. Because of the horrible weather (heavy rain and wind) I ended up seeing only three gigs: PJ Harvey, Explosions in the Sky and Peaches. Because of the rain, wind and the fact that PJ had a large amount of old, valuable vintage instruments with her the gig was pushed back several hours. I got there literally a couple of minutes before the gig started! PJ played a great gig, the sound was amazing and she’s a very captivating performer. I’d hoped for more of the older songs but luckily we got five of those. In my opinion ”50 ft Queenie”, ”To Bring You My Love” and ”Down By the Water” were the best of the whole gig!  My photos though, not the best I’ve taken by any means but after some editing there were a few acceptable ones. 

It was raining more heavily during Explosions in the Sky so I don’t have any acceptable photos from that gig. On Saturday I didn’t even bring a camera to Peaches’ gig because of the rain.  The rain didn’t put a damp on the atmosphere though. Peaches had two dancers with her and let’s just say that the gig was the one to see. It didn’t lack boldness or color, f.e. the vagina-costumes took care of that.
