Mitä saadaan, kun kuulonvaraiseen tehosekoittimeen heitetään Patti Smith, Cat Power, PJ Harvey, The Dead Weather, The Black Keys ja The White Stripes? No, tietenkin Brooklynilainen blues rock duo She Keeps Bees. Viettelevän tumman äänen omaava Jessica Larabee soittaa kitaraa humalluttavien lyriikoiden laulamisen lisäksi, kun toinen osapuolisko Andy LaPlant taas takoo rumpuja. Kaksikko on julkaissut kotona nauhoittamaansa musiikkia omakustanteisesti jo vuodesta 2006 lähtien. Kokopitkiä albumeita on kertynyt kolme: Minisink Hotel (2006), Nests (2008) ja Dig On (2011). Niiden lisäksi pari on julkaissut yhden EP:n Shhhh (2007) ja pari sinkkua: SKB-005 (2010) & SKB-007(2012). Biiseistä löytyy raakaa ja repivää tunnetta sekä valtavaa intensiteettiä. Jessican vangitsevalle äänelle ei voi kuin antautua. Jos kuuntelet vain yhden biisin, niin kuuntele Vulture. Olen totaalisesti sen lumoissa.

What do you get when you throw Patti Smith, Cat Power, PJ Harvey, The Dead Weather, The Black Keys and The White Stripes into an auditory blender? And of course the answer is (sorry, I just had to) a duo called She Keeps Bees from Brooklyn. Jessica Larabee, the vocalist with an amazing dark and sultry voice, also plays guitar and her partner Andy LaPlant plays the drums. The duo has self-released their home-recorded blues rock since 2006. They’ve got three albums under their belt: ”Minisink Hotel” (2006), ”Nests (2008”) and ”Dig On” (2011). They’ve also released one EP by the name of ”Shhhh” (2007) and two singles ”SKB-005” (2010) & ”SKB-007″(2012). The music has plenty of raw and gripping feeling and so much intensity. You cannot help but to surrender to Jessica’s voice. If you listen to just one song, listen to ”Vulture”. I’m totally over the moon about that one!
